The National Building and Public Works Laboratory (LNBTP) has organized a seminar to validate the report on the reform. The discussion meeting will take place in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The committee is chaired by Ismaël Zébré, Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
In order to make LNBTP operate efficiently, the structure leaders conducted an in-depth analysis to find possible solutions. A report was drafted for this purpose. The workshop aimed to verify the impact of the laboratory and make specific recommendations.
According to recent assessments and analysis of the internal and external environment, LNBTP still faces four major challenges that need to be addressed. Ismaël Zébré, Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure, said that these include strengthening leadership in the field of construction testing, strengthening the legal, organizational and institutional framework, strengthening operational capacity, strengthening partnerships and mobilizing LNBTP resources.
“As you all know, the role of this national seminar is to conduct an in-depth review of the reforms proposed by the LNBTP Reform Commission, with the aim of contributing fundamentally to the reform projects that are of concern to the authorities. To this end, the seminar is responsible for validating the above-mentioned draft report so that its content conforms to the wishes of the authorities, who are concerned about the existence of a well-structured and safe construction industry that carries the seeds of sustainable economic development. Contributing to meeting the major challenges facing the country in the long term”, the Secretary General suggested.
Mr Zébré said their goal is to make the laboratory a reference laboratory at national and sub-regional level. “Our vision is to do research at laboratory level so that we can use local materials. Today, to build a building, the materials must be of good quality. Geotechnical tests must also be precise to ensure that the structure is stable,” he said.
“In recent years, a lot has been said about the National Laboratory. So the reform aims to guide the reflection and make this structure a reference laboratory. Clients and laboratory partners often complain about slow responses when providing services. At the level of works, there are also some failures. Laboratories are often indexed, rightly or not. So we will analyze all these difficulties to find solutions,” pointed out Adama Ouédraogo, president of the committee in charge of the reform.
Adama Ouedraogo said that since the laboratory does not have a representative office nationwide, relevant personnel will work hard to ensure its establishment across the country.
