KUWAIT CITY, June 10: The Ministry of Health has updated its “Fees and Exemptions” policy for those visiting primary health care centres after a thorough review of all relevant fees and exemptions for health services.
The updated exemptions include: Bedouins with valid cards, children of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis, non-Kuwaiti husbands of Kuwaiti women, citizens of the Cooperation Council with civil cards or passports, scholarship students, residents of social care homes, and children under 18 diagnosed with cancer in Kuwait. In addition, non-Kuwaiti children under 12 with severe disabilities, prison inmates, residents of domestic workers’ shelters, members of official delegations and transit passengers are also exempted.
For those who are not exempted from the fee, the update stipulates that illegal residents who do not hold a valid card and those registered in the medical insurance system will be charged a fee of 10 dinars. Non-Kuwaitis (including diplomats) living in Kuwait and registered in the medical insurance system will be charged a service fee of 2 dinars and a treatment fee of 5 dinars. Non-Kuwaiti tourists who are not registered in the medical insurance system will be charged a fee of 10 dinars.
Domestic workers will be charged a fee of 1 dinar, covering all services and treatments. Ministry of Health employees and their spouses and children will be charged 2 dinars for services and 5 dinars for treatments, but radiology and nuclear medicine fees will be waived.
In order to modernize the administrative structure of health institutions and align it with international best practices, Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi issued a decision to transfer the technical affiliation of public relations and media departments, units and divisions in all health districts and central departments to the Director of the Department of Public Relations and Health Media. The decision was made after a comprehensive review of operational needs and organizational structure with the aim of increasing operational efficiency and improving the quality of services provided by health institutions.
Visiting Fees
- 10 Dinar: For Bedouins holding a valid residence permit.
- 10 Dinar: Service fees for persons within the social security system (including diplomats).
- 5 Dinar: Service fees charged to Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis and their children under the social security system.
- 5 Dinar: Treatment costs are charged to Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis and their children who are not covered by the social security system.
- 10 Dinar: For non-Kuwaiti prisoners who are not registered in the social security system.
- dinar: Provide all services and treatments to domestic workers.
- 2 Dinar: Applicable to service fees paid by public officials and their spouses.
- 5 Dinar: Applicable to expenses of treatment of ministry staff and their spouses, except in radiology and nuclear medicine.
Fee-free categories
- A valid Bedouin residence card.
- Non-Kuwaiti children of Kuwaiti mothers.
- Spouse of a Kuwaiti who is not a Kuwaiti.
- Citizens of the Cooperation Council who hold a National Identity Card or Passport.
- scholarship students.
- Residents of social care homes.
- Children under 18 years old are being treated for cancer in Kuwait.
- Non-Kuwaiti children under 12 years of age with severe disabilities.
