Sam asks players to speed up the game

Fiji women’s futsal coach Jerry Sam has urged his players to pick up the pace in their upcoming match against New Zealand following their 4-0 win over Tonga, but it did not satisfy him.

Although the team recorded a comfortable win in their second match of the Oceania Football Association Women’s Futsal Championship yesterday, Sam felt their performance lacked the intensity and pace required to challenge stronger opponents.

“We started a little bit slow because in the back of our mind, whoever plays against Tonga is going to start slow. We don’t want that to happen in the next game and we have to take that into account,” said Sam.

Sam paced the sidelines throughout the game, encouraging the girls to try harder and create more scoring chances, his frustration evident.

He knows they have the talent and potential to perform at the next level and is determined to see them display those talents on the field.

The stakes will be even higher tomorrow when Fiji take on New Zealand at the Solomon Islands Friendship Hall at 4pm.
