18 August 2024 (Galganj) – About 233 families were reportedly displaced from their homes during attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s Sennar State from 13 to 18 August 2024.
The incident took place in the town of Galgani in the Abu Hujar district of Sennar State.
Data provided by the International Organization for Migration shows that displaced families have sought shelter across Ad Damazin and the Blue Nile.
Additionally, widespread telecommunication outages in the Sennar region hampered the ability of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field teams to provide continuous updates.
However, the IOM said it would continue to monitor developments closely, as network coverage permits, and would provide regular updates on displacement and population movements across Sudan.
Meanwhile, an estimated total of 10,710,015 IDPs have been displaced to 8,790 locations in 183 locations across all 18 states of Sudan.
An estimated 7,914,235 people have been internally displaced in Sudan since mid-April last year, while 27% of those who were first displaced before the current conflict broke out have experienced secondary displacement.
The report also shows that since April 15, 2023, 2,312,968 people have crossed the border into neighboring countries, with the countries of origin with the highest number of internally displaced persons being Khartoum (34%), South Darfur (19%), and North Darfur (14%).
The states hosting the largest number of IDPs are South Darfur (17%), North Darfur (14%) and Central Darfur (8%), of which approximately (52%) are children under the age of 18.
