(St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association) St. Kitts and Nevis now has a pool of qualified, certified youth football coaches. Some of the participants in the SKNFA Youth Coaches Training Program were presented with their certificates at a ceremony held at the NBGC Technical Center in St. Peters recently. St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association Technical Director Lenny Taylor commended the coaches for successfully completing the coaching course held earlier this year and encouraged them to obtain further qualifications and take their coaching education to the next level. Taylor explained: “In coaching, once you think you are the best, you are likely to fall. It’s about learning, learning, learning…getting as much information as you can. The ones who benefit are the young people, especially the youngsters. As you can see now, we are trying to get the kids to learn the game at a younger age. Not just playing the game, but learning the game.”

SKNFA Secretary General Techell McClean, speaking on behalf of SKNFA President Atiba Harris, who was unable to attend due to prior commitments, also encouraged coaches to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by SKNFA to improve their knowledge and coaching skills. “All coaches from the Concacaf region must be certified. If you read our rules and regulations, you will find that in every league we run, you must have a certain level of license to coach any team, whether it is a youth team, a women’s team or a men’s team,” she said. She noted that technical directors can speak to youth coaches who are interested in improving their certification level.

39 participants have successfully completed the course and local youth coaches will be formally certified. This is part of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association’s efforts to improve the quality of youth coaches and, by extension, football in St. Kitts and Nevis. The certified coaches include:
