Women’s high jump: Mahuchi safe

Jaroslawa Mahutschich, initially the favourite, added another medal to an impressive Palmarès. Just like two years ago in Munich, the 22-year-old Ukrainian was crowned European champion. In Rome, she failed at just 2.01 m, but succeeded on her second attempt. Angelina Topic (SRB), 18, took the silver (1.97 m), while the bronze went to Mahutschich’s compatriot Iryna Herashchenko (1.95 m).

Hammer thrower: Nowitzki wins three consecutive titles

In the men’s hammer throw, Wojciech Nowicki won his third consecutive European title. However, the 35-year-old Pole had to worry about defending his title. He finished only third before throwing the hammer 80.95 m in his last attempt. He surpassed Hungarian Bence Halasz (80.49 m) and Ukrainian Mychajlo Kochan (80.18 m).

3000m Spire Women: Finot Surprised

Alice Finot, 33, had the greatest success of her career. The French athlete crossed the finish line first in 9:16.22 minutes and won the European title. The German protest – Finot was said to have stepped on the railway marker twice in the final ditch – was initially approved, but then withdrawn. This left Gesa Felicitas Kraus with “only” a silver medal in her comeback after maternity leave.

Men’s 800m: Tours debut

The champion of the men’s 800m race also came from France. For Gabriel Toure, this title was also a first. It was the first time a Frenchman won a medal in a major event. Toure finished 1:44.87 minutes ahead of Spaniards Mohamed Ataoui and Catalin Tecuceanu from Italy.

Women’s 1500m: Mageean achieves gold medal dream

After winning bronze in 2018 and silver in 2022, Ciara Magean fulfilled her dream of winning gold at the European Championships. The 32-year-old Irishwoman won with a last-gasp sprint in the final 100 meters. In fourth place, she overtook the top three and clinched the European Championships title with a clear advantage. Georgia Bell (GBR) and Agathe Guillemot (FR) rounded out the podium.

Women’s triple jump: Spain wins gold

Ana Peleteiro-Compaore of Spain was crowned European champion with a European season best of 14.85 m, with a reserve of 28 cm. Tugba Danismaz won the silver medal with a Turkish record, while Ilionis Guillaume of France won the bronze medal with 14.43 m.
