An eight-year-old girl from Maplewood, Minnesota, has become an Internet sensation after helping her father subdue the robber during an armed robbery.
The incident happened last weekend when Big Discount Liquors manager Leo went to close the store at around 9.30pm.
Then a man came in and began wandering around the store. Surveillance video showed the man, who was wearing an Amazon uniform, reaching into his pocket and placing a realistic-looking gun on the counter.
– He put the gun on the table. He asked me to give him all the money and everything I had, and I told him, ‘Yeah, I’ll give you everything,'” Leo said.
Sitting at the counter with Leo was his eight-year-old daughter.
– I tried to talk to him and told him, “I brought my daughter here. Can you put the gun down? Take it away from her. I’ll give you everything. Take everything. Here’s the money. I don’t care I’m just worried about her safety,” he said.
When the man walked behind the counter, Leo punched and kicked him, knocking him to the ground.
Seconds later, the video shows his brave daughter grabbing a baseball bat.
– I’m so proud of her. “She’s so strong,” Leo said.
She beat the suspect before he ran away.
– I just wanted to cry when I saw the video that day. I didn’t expect him to do this. “I expected the girl to cry and scream, but it didn’t happen like that,” Leo said.
Konchobar Morel (37) was charged with attempted aggravated robbery. According to an Amazon spokesperson, Morel was a contractor who delivered packages for Amazon. Amazon said it would “immediately remove it.”
