Good news for fans of mixed martial arts (MMA): Macau will host its first UFC event in a decade, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Galaxy Entertainment Group announced in a joint statement yesterday.

UFC Fight Night will take place at the Galaxy Arena on November 23. This will be the fourth event held by UFC in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since 2012 and its seventh event in Greater China.

Organizers noted that UFC’s popularity in China is growing, with the country having produced “many top fighters and rising stars” in recent years, including current UFC women’s strawweight champion Zhang Weili. They also highlighted the completion of the world’s largest UFC MMA training and development facility in Shanghai in 2019.

The UFC, based in the United States, is the world’s main MMA event organizer, and its rules allow punches, kicks, elbows, knees, takedowns and submissions.

Kevin Chang, UFC Senior Vice President and Head of Asia, said he was excited to bring American mixed martial arts back to Macau. “The last time we held a UFC event here was ten years ago in 2014. [and we] Can’t wait to put on an exciting show…to the delight of fans across the region.”

More information about the November event will be available at Specialized website.
