For former FCSG coach Peter Zeidler, his first competitive match as Bochum’s new head coach ended in disappointment. Just like 12 months ago, the first round of the German Cup was over for the Ruhr team. Bochum lost 0-1 to the newly promoted second division team Regensburg.

Swiss Noah Loosli started in Zeidler’s debut and had to watch as his lower-class opponent scored the decisive goal from a corner kick in the 70th minute.

I feel like the team failed early on.

Augsburg came from behind to beat fourth-tier club Victoria Berlin 4-1 on Sunday. Ruben Vargas, who came on as a substitute in the 79th minute, crossed in the 87th minute to make the score 3-1. Augsburg thus avoided the embarrassment of the first round like Onderhage last season.

1. FC Saarbrücken’s cup run is over. Last season the team reached the semi-finals after victories over Bayern, Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach, but lost to Nuremberg on penalties.
