Vishakha Tania René, crowned Miss Universe Mauritius 2024, embodies all of these qualities. The 27-year-old Quatre Bornes resident is more than just a crown-wearer. She is a woman of conviction, ready to represent her country on the world stage with dignity and pride. But who is she? And how did she get there?
Tanya’s story in the world of beauty pageants began in 2019, when she was still a student. Pushed by friends who saw her obvious potential, she decided to enter her first competition. The experience was a true revelation for her. “From my first competition, I understood that beauty pageants are about more than just looks. They provide a platform for women to express their ideas, passions and champion causes that are close to their hearts. From that day on, my goal was clear to compete in Miss Universe Mauritius and one day wear my country’s sash proudly on the world stage.”, Tanya confided.
Balancing career and passion
But Tania doesn’t limit herself to modelling. She holds a degree in Media, Communications and Journalism, works as a project manager and is about to start a Masters in Project Management. This determination is what drives her intense preparations. With the support of the Crown Mauritius organisation led by Vandana Jeetah, Tania has undergone rigorous training in head posture, gait, communication and personal development. “The organization provided me with the tools to succeed, but I also invested a great deal of my personal time and energy. I focused on my stage performance, improved my communication skills, and expanded my knowledge in various disciplines”she pointed out.
Tania’s win at Miss Universe Mauritius 2024 was the culmination of years of hard work and she fondly remembers the moment her name was announced. “It’s an indescribable mixture of emotions. I feel so relieved and so grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. When I heard my name, I broke down, overwhelmed with emotion, and realized that my dream had finally come true.” But Tania knows that this crowning is not the end of her journey, but marks the beginning of a new adventure – one that will take her to the Miss Universe Mexico stage, where she will represent Mauritius with unwavering humility and determination.
Advocate for the environment
Tania now has a platform to support causes that are dear to her, among which the fight against climate change takes center stage. Realizing the serious threat that global warming poses to the planet, she is determined to use her visibility to raise public awareness and encourage action. She hopes to become an agent of change and plans to launch local and international awareness campaigns to mobilize communities to address environmental issues.
With her sights set on Miss Universe Mexico, Tania is stepping up her preparations both physically and mentally. She follows a strict workout regime not only to stay in good shape but also to feel good about her body. Mentally, Tania focuses on positivity with the support of those close to her. “I surround myself with people who encourage me and bring me positive energy. This is essential to maintaining a strong and balanced mindset.” She knows the competition will be tough but says she is ready to take on the challenge with the support of her loved ones and the people of Mauritius.
Proudly representing Mauritian culture
One of Tania’s most important missions is to represent and promote her island’s rich culture and heritage. “Mauritius may be a small island, but it has an incredibly rich cultural diversity. I look forward to sharing our traditions, hospitality and cuisine with the world.””, she proudly declares. Tania aspires to be a role model for young women in Mauritius. She wants to show them that no matter where they come from, they can achieve their dreams with determination and confidence. “My journey hasn’t always been smooth, but I’m here today because I believed in myself and worked hard to achieve my goals. That’s the message I want to send to all the young women out there: Believe in your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t achieve them.” Tanya says this inspiring message is deeply rooted in the values she inherited from her mother, who is her greatest source of inspiration.
A promising future
After the Miss Universe pageant, Tanya has big ambitions. She hopes to continue to be a positive force and make a significant contribution to society. She is also passionate about Japanese culture, which she explores by learning the language and discovering the subtleties of manga and anime. “I also enjoy photography and dancing, which allow me to express my creativity.”she shared. If Tanya had to sum up her reign in one word, it would be “Devotion”From day one, she devoted herself to her dream of becoming Miss Universe Mauritius and was determined to stay on this path until the end.
