The Memphis Showboat team is making changes at the top. The team acknowledged last weekend that head coach John DeFilippo will not return for the 2025 season.

A team spokesman also confirmed that general manager Dennis Polian resigned about a week ago. As of this month, Polian was running his own insurance agency in Texas, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Neither the United Football League nor the Showboats acknowledged for more than a week that Polian was no longer with the organization, and on the day the news broke, neither the UFL nor the team confirmed DeFilippo’s departure.

DeFilippo and Polian both spent one year with the Showboats, which went 2-8 and missed the playoffs in 2024. Memphis had an eight-game losing streak after opening and closing the season with wins over the Houston Roughnecks.

DeFilippo, who previously served as offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars, served as head coach of the XFL’s New Orleans Blazers before the UFL merged with its rival Spring Professional Football Minor League in 2023.
