KORORO (New Zealand Government) – New Zealand and Palau will work more closely together on the oceans and marine resources, Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters says.

“Marine resources are a vital source of food and economic security in the Pacific and are closely linked to the well-being and identity of Pacific communities,” Minister Peters said during a visit to Koror Island, Palau.

“Palau is globally recognized as a leader on ocean issues, and we are proud to support Palau in this area.

“New Zealand will provide funding to help Palau strengthen its stewardship of its oceans and marine resources,” Peters said.

“This initiative will enhance Palau’s capacity to implement its ocean plan, small-scale climate-smart fisheries, and marine conservation,” Peters said.

Accompanying Peters on his visit to Palau were Labor Pacific Caucus Chair Jenny Salesa, Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee (FADTC) Chair Tim van de Molen and FADTC member Teanau Tuiono.

While in Palau, the New Zealand delegation met with President Surangel Whipps Jr, Minister of State Gustav Aitaro, and other ministers and members of Parliament to discuss shared priorities and exchange views on regional issues… PACNEWS
