The reality is completely different from what the “culturalists” say, including the current director of the Sarajevo National Theater, Dino Mustafić. That is, over the past five years, the ministry has distributed 2,042,500 marks to institutions in the Sarajevo region and 902,000 marks to institutions in Mostar. This is a difference of 2.2 times in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, the central cities of Tuzla, Zenica, Bihać … were not included in the allocation of funds, so the gap will be even greater. It is true that this year Mostar was allocated to Herzegovina with 298,000 marks, and it should be said that this is not only the “exclusive” Croatian institutions, for the first time surpassing Sarajevo, which received 249,000 marks, but this is only a slight increase in the discrimination that has been going on for many years in this part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, like the other parts, has the only “legal” right to pay taxes.
According to data provided to Večernje List by the federal ministry headed by Minister Flesavljevic, of the total amount approved in 2020, Sarajevo received 397,000 marks and Mostar (that is, the institutions located in the city) received 192,000 marks. The amount was also about half. The following year, the gap widened to three times. The institutions in the capital received 462,500 marks, while those south of Ivan received 150,000 marks. In 2022, everything cultural in Mostar was shamefully destroyed. Only 116,000 marks were approved, while Sarajevo received 476,000 km, which is 4.1 times more.
However, the institutions in Mostar did not create a rebellion at that time, although they had to, since this was actually a robbery of the funds they were supposed to receive. In 2023, the difference narrowed, but it was still significant. Then, 458,000 marks finally entered the coffers of the Sarajevo institutions, and 146,000 marks entered Mostar. In five years, the federal budget provided support to 16 institutions in Sarajevo and 6 in Mostar. The Sarajevo National Theater received the most funding in five years. It was about 574,500 marks. We are talking about support for the event marking the 100th anniversary of the operation of this theater company. For a similar event next year, that is, in 2022, twice as much will be allocated – 20,000 marks, and the following year 100,000 km will be allocated for improving the program activities of the opera and ballet companies. The costs of renovation and reconstruction and strengthening the “resource” capacity of the institution were also paid.
Total gap
The Croatian National Theatre in Mostar, which received DM100,000 for each performance over the past five years, is the only Croatian cultural institution to receive continuous support. The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina received DM388,500 over five years, and no funds were allocated to the institution this year, which had to be created by the state, but was not. The museum of the late Bosniak leader Alija Izetbegović also received 10,000 points in 2020 for “innovative multimedia approaches.” The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was also not established by the state, was allocated DM145,000 over five years, the History Museum received DM260,000, and the Art Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina received DM296,000. The federal budget allocated DM127,000 to the Australian National University of Bosnia and Herzegovina and DM245,000 to the Museum of Literature and Dramatic Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Library for the Blind and Partially Sighted received DM66,000 during the period. The Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra collected 98,000 marks, and the Rijaset Islamic Community collected 31,000 marks. The Bosnian Memorial Museum received 10,000 marks, and the Sarajevo University School of Music received 15,000 km. Meanwhile, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina received 46,000 km in five years, and the University of Mostar received 235,000 marks. Mostar National Theatre received 50,000 marks.
