Anti-Maduro protests Since election day, the clashes have left 25 people dead, nearly 200 injured and more than 2,400 arrested.
There was a heavy security presence in the capital early Saturday, with two armored vehicles and 40 soldiers on motorcycles controlling access to the low-income neighborhood of Petare, just a few miles from where the opposition is gathering.
Local media reported that similar measures were being deployed in other regions.
More than 100 Venezuelans rallied in Sydney on Saturday, waving flags and balloons in one of the first overseas demonstrations in Australia.
“This is a strong message to the Venezuelan people,” said protest organizer Rina Rivas. “We are with you and we want the whole world to hear our voice.”
It was unclear whether Gonzalez Urrutia, who is also in hiding, would attend Saturday’s march. His last public appearance was at a protest on July 30.
Maduro has called for the arrest of Machado and González Urrutia. He accuses them of trying to foment a “coup.”
