Top seed Iga Swiontek (Poland) advances to the quarterfinals of the UTA 1000 Series Hard Court Tennis Championships in Cincinnati (USA).
Shvyantek defeated 15th seed Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine 6-2, 6-2 in 71 minutes in the third round.
The Polish player broke first in the first set but then won four games in a row to lead 4-1 before eventually taking the first set point 6-2.
Women’s world ranking leader Iga Swiantek was more focused at the beginning of the second quarter, took a 3:0 lead, and confidently closed the game with a new 6:2.
In the quarterfinals, Shviontek will face the winner between Italy’s Jazmin Paolini and Russia’s Mila Andreeva.
Tenth seed Lyudmila Samsonova of Russia also advanced to the third round after a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 comeback win over Armenia’s Elina Avanesian, where she awaits third seed Alina Sabalenka (Belarus) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.
