Namibia’s Inspector General of Police, Joseph Shikongo, has refuted allegations that traffic police discriminate against drivers of seven-seater vehicles. “I want to clarify that the Namibian police has never directed or authorized discriminatory practices in the enforcement of laws to unfairly target seven-seater transport operators,” he said. He said seven-seater vehicles with valid public permits can be driven within the period specified in the permit.

“Vehicles not holding public transport permits are treated the same as other vehicles not holding such permits. Our traffic enforcement officers perform their duties professionally without favouritism or discrimination,” he said.

“It is worth noting that if a vehicle driver is found to be carrying passengers for profit without holding a valid license, he will bear legal consequences in accordance with relevant regulations,” the police chief added.
