More than 40 Belizean students receive Taiwan scholarships

On Saturday, August 10, 44 scholarship recipients of Belizean students will continue their educational journey to the Republic of China (Taiwan) during an orientation ceremony held at the Belize Embassy.

At the ceremony, 26 scholarship winners were awarded the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship and 18 were awarded the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship. Half of all the winners will first take a compulsory Mandarin course before studying their chosen courses.

Students will specialize in the following areas: digital media, international affairs, finance, sustainable energy, tropical agriculture, public health, computer science, and information technology.

Ambassador of the Republic of China to Belize Hsu Li-wen congratulated the winners and said that the scholarship program empowers young people in Belize and hopes that they will contribute to the development of Belize after acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills.

Also present at the ceremony was the Governor General of Belize, Ms. Froila Chalam, who stressed that the purpose of higher education is not just to find a job, but to pursue the freedom, social and economic development of a country. In addition, ask questions because critical thinking is how people become problem solvers, thereby helping to build Belize’s national resilience.

Education Minister Francis Fonseca also attended the ceremony and wished the winners all the best.
