Head coach Paulo Fonseca is pleased with AC Milan’s pre-season signings but has warned that some players will leave the club when the team opens its campaign at home to Torino on Saturday.
The new Portugal head coach confirmed that the signing of French midfielder Youssouf Fofana from AS Monaco is close to completion and that no other signings are currently planned.
AC Milan have signed striker Alvaro Morata and defenders Emerson Royal and Stracinja Pavlovic.
“With his arrival, our recruitment is complete and we need to focus on spending,” Fonseca told reporters on Friday.
“Some players have to go now. We have a lot of players and it’s not easy to work with so many players.”
“We work hard to get to the top, we can’t say we’re ahead of everyone and won the league, but we want to fight for the Serie A title,” Fonseca said.
“Inter are the defending champions and we know their level. In addition to us, Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta also have the strength to compete.”
Fonseca has only been Milan head coach for two months but he is pleased with how his players have adapted to his training methods.
“I arrived at Milan at the right moment in my career. The feeling is very positive and from day one our progress has exceeded my expectations,” he said.
“We are expecting a different and more complex match than in the pre-season. We hope to show our characteristics from the first match.”
