President Dr Irfaan Ali on Wednesday announced that the government plans to invest over $80 million in the hinterland community of Kuruka Baru in Region Eight by the end of 2024.

“We have to make sure that we work together. Every community, every citizen, every family, every corner of our country is impacted by development as we build this new Guyana. That is why we are travelling across the country so that we can communicate with you,” the Head of State told residents during a community outreach event.
He further stressed that Government has invested in communities across Guyana, including Amerindian communities, to restore lost jobs and create livelihood opportunities.
“Over the past four years, our government has invested significantly in your communities,” President Ali said.
He noted that the Department of Indian Affairs has invested $669 million, the Department of Education has invested about $89 million, the Guyana Energy Agency has invested nearly $54 million, the Department of Health has invested $47 million and the Department of Agriculture has invested nearly $18.5 million.
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Protection invested an additional $50 million, the Ministry of Public Works invested more than $90 million, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports invested $45 million.

He noted that these investments have accumulated to billions of dollars and the government has built a high-speed internet facility in Kuruka Baru, purchased all-terrain vehicles for cattle breeding projects and completed a seeding center.
He noted that the government will continue to make such investments.
President Ali highlighted the government’s efforts to revitalize communities, invest in livelihood opportunities and empower citizens through low-carbon development strategies. He further outlined plans to connect local hubs to high-speed internet facilities and invest $10 million in community farming projects.
Several cheques have been prepared for the local government of the community to carry out some development projects.
