Single Candidates – Macau Today

The sixth Macau Chief Executive election will be held on October 13. Unless something unexpected happens, only one candidate will be put forward.

The date of this election is later than previous elections. The 2014 election was held on August 31, and the 2019 election was held on the 25th of the same month. It is not clear whether this postponement is related to the extended leave of absence (a total of 39 days) of the current Chief Executive due to the need for a medical examination, but it is certain that the performance of public office requires a good physical shape.

Focusing on the principle of “patriots governing Macau”, the Chief Executive Election Law and the Legislative Assembly Election Law were amended to improve Macau’s electoral system. The results of the 6th Macau Chief Executive election will be officially announced after October 13. The nomination process and campaign will continue as planned, and there will certainly be no competition comparable to the current US presidential election. Given that the spending limit for each candidate running for the 2024 Chief Executive position is MOP 6,439,847.85, I suggest that this amount be used to host variety shows so that the public as a whole can participate.
