On October 12, in the small auditorium of the Ugala Theatre, the acclaimed British playwright and screenwriter Abi Morgan’s “Trace of Lightning” will premiere, directed by Karl Koperma.
The play tells the story of the power of friendship and love against the pain of losing a loved one. A successful businessman and his friend with antisocial tendencies meet a young woman in the summer. These people have been friends since childhood and, among other things, have survived a lightning strike. One has it all. He is rational in his decisions and does not want to take too many risks. The other is a natural dreamer who loves a wonderful story but does not want to achieve nothing in his life. But they are friends. This summer date makes the man see things in a different way.
Director Karl Koperma said that Trails of Lightning is a poetic story about the moments when seemingly insignificant things gain great power and are forever etched in our lives. “We tell stories to organize our life experience, but sometimes this experience is unorganized. Either we distort reality according to our limited thinking, or we acknowledge the existence of miracles that exceed the limits of our thinking,” Koperma added.
The author of the play, Abi Morgan, is mainly known to Ugala audiences through his work Lovesong (2011, Ugala 2014), which was a huge success among audiences. His most famous plays are Brick Lane (2007), Shame (2011), The Iron Lady (2011) and Suffragette (2015). The most famous series are The Hour (2011-2012), River (2015), The Split (2018-2022) on ETV and the Netflix mini-series Eric (2024).
