Argentina coach Mauricio Pochettino has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the United States.
According to multiple media outlets including The Athletic, one of the keys to the strategist’s arrival was because he had worked with U.S. national team sporting director Matt Crocker in the past.
Pochettino, who left in May after Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League, will replace Gregg Berhalter, who was sacked following the United States’ failure to qualify for the 2024 Copa America.

Pochettino, 52, will take over at a crucial time as the United States prepares to co-host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada. However, he cannot formally sign a contract until outstanding wage issues with Chelsea are resolved.
The Argentine is expected to take charge in time for the September 7 friendly against Canada in Kansas City.
