In 1984 a group of people from Greiwelden came together again for a Maria Himmelfahrt celebration.
A year later, the “Léiffrawischdag” was born, and has since been celebrated every August 15th in the streets and churches around the small town of Missel.
Every year, 5,000 to 7,000 people come to Greiweldeng to celebrate. In the church, the cloth, bread and wine are blessed. This tradition dates back to the 17th century. The century is about to end. The wipes are supposed to bring good luck and protect the farmers’ animals from disease.
