The main index of the Mauritius Stock Exchange closed slightly higher this week. The total return index SEMTRI rose 0.50% this week to close at 9,427.29 points as of Wednesday, August 14, 2024. SEMDEX closed at 2,131.35 points in the same week. The SEM-10 index, which brings together high-capitalization stocks, closed at 399.27 points yesterday. The market capitalization of the official market was Rs343.9 billion as of Wednesday’s close.
The total transaction value for the week was Rs 243.1 million. The largest transactions were made by MCB Group Limited, ENL Limited, Phoenix Beverages Ltd, AfreximBank and New Mauritius Hotels Limited at Rs 85 million, Rs 65.3 million, Rs 19.1 million, Rs 14.3 million and Rs 7.9 million respectively.
Of the 61 stocks listed, 16 rose this week, 31 remained stable and 14 fell. The biggest gainers were: Gamma Civic Ltd (+5.08%), Caudan Development Ltd (+4.65%), Alteo Limited (+2.38%), BlueLife Limited (+2.04%) and SBM Holdings Ltd (+0.84%). The biggest losers were: Grit Real Estate Income Group Limited – USD (-13.64%), Mauritius Development Investment Trust Limited (-8.65%), NewGold ETF (-4.96%), AfreximBank (-4 .23%) and Omnicane Ltd (-3.77%).
The list of the top ten companies with the best annualized total returns since IPO shows that their performance ranges from 12.64% to 19.79%. These companies are engaged in different business areas, as shown in the table below.
superior Development and Enterprise Marketing (DEM)On Wednesday, the DEMEX and DEMTRI indices closed at 232.59 and 382.62 points respectively. The market capitalization is Rs 45.6 billion. The trading volume for the week totaled Rs 13.70 lakh crore. The top ten companies with the best annualized total returns since IPO are: The Union Sugar Estates Co. Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd, Associated Commercial Ltd, United Bus Service Ltd, Phoenix Investment Company Ltd, Swan Life Ltd, ABC Motors Company Ltd, Excelsior United Development Companies Ltd, Compagnie Immobiliere Ltée and Kolos Cement Ltd. The returns of these 10 companies ranged from 12.12% to 22.62%.
Internationally, the Dow Jones and Nasdaq rose 1.27% and 5.01% respectively for the week. The DAX, FTSE-100 and CAC-40 rose 2.64%, 2.60% and 2.05% respectively over the same period.
