The Jamaican government has set up a $25 million fund to incentivize people to share information or intelligence to help investigate the massacre of eight people in the Cherry Tree Lane community of Four Paths in Clarendon on Sunday.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the fund at a news conference in the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday morning.
The prime minister called Sunday’s shooting an “act of terror” that required strong action. He stressed the need to encourage citizens to come forward with information to undermine gang activity. “This information will destroy gang networks and eliminate their ability to operate within communities,” he said.
The Ministry of National Security will manage the fund, with a special focus on Sunday’s violence.
Of the $25 million, $6 million is specifically for individuals who provide credible information and intelligence leading to the arrest and charging of suspects in connection with the homicides, with each individual receiving up to $1 million.

An additional $5 million is available for information that assists in the investigation, arrest and charging of crime facilitators, with a maximum award of $1.5 million per person.
“We are particularly interested in identifying facilitators and organizers, individuals who provided weapons, vehicles, coordinated logistics, made phone calls or established connections,” Holness said.
He also noted that $4 million of the money will be used to collect clues to recover the guns used in the killings, and another $5 million will be used to collect evidence against the gangs involved.
Finally, $5 million will be set aside for information leading to the arrest and charging of anyone harboring the criminal gang or its associates, with a reward of up to $800,000 for each person identified.
Holness added: “This $25 million fund is intended to accelerate the flow of information that is critical to investigations.”
Information that could assist the investigation can be submitted through the Crime Tip Line at 311, the Police Emergency Number at 119, the National Intelligence Service Tip Line at 811, 888 MOCATIP (6622-847) or the Jamaica Defence Force Tip Line at 876-837-888.
Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder and seized an illegal firearm.
The Prime Minister also stressed that any other means of submitting information would be acceptable as long as the relevant details were communicated to the Ministry of National Security.
