Myanmar junta chief discusses ‘stability’ with Chinese foreign minister amid heightened conflict

Clashes between Shan State government forces and ethnic armed groups continued on Wednesday.

Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) Major General Tar Bhone Kyaw told AFP his fighters were fighting junta forces in the towns of Hsipaw and Naungcho in Shan State.

AFP has contacted the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), another group fighting in northern Shan state, for comment.

Earlier this month MDNAA militants seize the military’s Northeastern Command in Lashio townwith about 150,000 residents.

Occupation of the Regional Command – This is the first time since the 1966 general election that the military junta’s opponents have occupied the regional command. Military coup 2021 — sparked rare public criticism of top generals by his supporters.

Min Aung Hlaing later said NATO was acquiring weapons, including drones and short-range missiles, from “foreign” sources, but he did not identify them.
