This Sunday, August 18, Viva Park will be the site of the third race of the 2024 AMA Superbike National Championship, which will feature some surprises, such as the return of a fan-requested category and a special exhibition.

The event will start at 9 am at the La Guácima circuit in Alajuela. It will be held in conjunction with the National Championship of Motorsport.

For the category leaders, this day was crucial to expand the advantage in the general standings over other competitors, such as Jorge Calderón in the Yamaha R3 Cup, who leads Melania Prado by 6 points, while on the other hand, Iván Sala Take Javier Collado rides 12 units on the Superbike 1000 cubic centimeters (cc).

One of the new features of this date is the return of the SuperMoto category. Gustavo Rojas, pilot and collaborator of AMA Superbike, explains the peculiarities of this type of competition.

“It consists of using motocross bikes adapted for high-speed motorcycles. Their knobby tires are replaced with slick tires to suit the track. The hoop size is 17 inches, which may vary to 16 or 16.5 in some cases. They are light motorcycles with a lot of touches to increase track speeds and are very manageable for a rider who wants to have fun,” he explained.

In addition, on Sunday, the museum dedicated to the 50th anniversary of La Guácima will be open, where participants will be able to relive moments in the history of motorcycling and several motorcycles that have marked history will be on display.
