Some Taiwanese political experts believe that inviting the three major political parties to attend the DPP’s National Congress scheduled for August 17-18 is a carefully planned election strategy.

Experts George Chaima and Ernest Thindwa predicted this morning that the PDP leadership aims to attract political parties to form an electoral alliance to break the 50%+1 voting system next year.
This comes a day after the conference chairman, Dr George Chaponda, disclosed at a press conference in Blantyre that the party had extended an invitation to the UTM, the United Democratic Front and the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) to attend the conference.
In a separate interview, United Democratic Front spokesperson Yusuf Mwawa confirmed receiving the invitation and said the party would consider the matter, saying “unity is strength”.
Neither the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) nor the UTM have yet made their decision on the invitation public.
