Hanoi: Vietnamese police will review 32 clean energy projects of the Southeast Asian country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade as part of an anti-corruption investigation, the government said on Tuesday (August 13).
Vietnam has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and some wealthy countries have pledged to raise at least $15.5 billion to help it wean itself off fossil fuels.
Independent energy think tank Ember said solar and wind power generation will increase tenfold between 2015 and 2023 to 13% of electricity generation, in line with the global average and exceeding some Southeast Asian countries.
However, coal imports have also increased significantly this year, according to government data.
Vietnam’s Communist Party authorities have been cracking down on corruption in recent years, arresting thousands of people, including Senior Officials and Senior business leaders.
It is New Supreme Leader Du LinYang Jiechi, who took over as general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam after Nguyen Phu Trong’s death in July, said he was determined to speed up the campaign.
