Minsk, August 13 /Corr. Belta/. The number of fires in natural ecosystems has decreased by 36.3% over the past seven months. The Ministry of Emergency Situations told Belta news agency that these indicators were announced at an operational meeting of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Several important topics were discussed at the meeting chaired by First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Khudolev. Rescuers work in the form of selectors. Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, heads of departments, bureaus, central direct agencies, and local departments attended the meeting.
In Belarus, over seven months, the number of sunburns in natural ecosystems has decreased by 36.3%. The total area of fires has also decreased by 40.7%. Fires in natural ecosystems have caused two deaths, four injuries, four destroyed buildings and nine damaged.
The authorities and emergency departments, together with relevant personnel, searched for 158 people missing in the natural ecosystem, including 23 minors. 148 people were found, including 23 minors, and 10 people (all adults) were not found.
The operational situation remains difficult with regard to fires and fire deaths in the seven months of 2024. According to department records, in the seven months of this year, there were 3,492 man-made emergencies in the country, which was 0.9% less than in the same period of 2023. Among them, there were 5 man-made emergencies (-16.7%) and 3,487 fires (-0.8%), which caused 308 deaths (+10.8%) and 319 injuries (-6.2%).
From August 19 to September 13, the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Rescue focused on the “Children in the Spotlight!” Republican information campaign. The campaign aims to draw public attention to the issue of child injuries and deaths due to external factors, with the aim of reducing the number of emergencies involving children and ensuring the overall safety of children.
Rescuers will organize educational and recreational activities at places where school supplies are sold (markets and bazaars), as well as in institutions of general secondary education stage I. In addition, EMERCOM workers will speak at parent-teacher conferences in pre-school institutions, educational institutions, and visit large families, orphanages and family-type homes.
The meeting discussed the situation of water operations. According to statistics, the number of drownings increased from 224 to 238, including 17 minors, and 165 people were rescued.
Rescue workers are actively monitoring recreational areas and identifying unauthorized swimming areas. Raids are also being carried out with staff from the Ministry of Interior. Emergency Situations Ministry aviation and drones are actively involved. Systematic explanation and prevention work is being carried out with teachers and parents.
Alexander Khudolev instructed that ongoing prevention and control work at the local level should be strengthened before the end of the swimming season and the children’s health campaign. Special attention should be paid to large-scale educational work for parents of minors, prohibiting leaving children unattended -0-.
