– Project is about to start
President Dr Mohammad Irfaan Ali announced on Monday that the master plan for the $6 billion residential scheme along the Sosdyke-Linden highway has been completed.
According to the head of state’s official social media page, the master plan was unveiled during a meeting with several government ministers, technocrats and representatives of the banking industry.
The project is expected to start soon.
President Ali announced plans for the innovative project at a media conference in June.
The innovative housing scheme, which integrates agriculture, will see 500 homes built on about 100 acres of land in Yarrowkabra.
The houses will be equipped with agricultural facilities and use solar energy to create a self-sufficient ecosystem for residents.
At the opening ceremony of the just concluded 2024 International Construction Expo, President Ali said the government plans to complete the project within six months and will cooperate with multiple ministries.
“This is the first time the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Surveys, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Human Services have collaborated on this project,” he said.
Central to the transformation plan is that each lot will have several coconut or breadfruit trees planted in the front yard and a 20 x 40 awning installed behind the house.
The shade houses are equipped with advanced agricultural technology, designed to increase food production and provide a stable income for families.
By incorporating sustainable agriculture, single mothers can earn an income that will ensure they can move out of poverty and into middle-income households.
The administration continues to outline its plans to provide thousands of families with adequate living conditions, improve economic stability and quality of life, with a focus on developing low-income housing standards.
