The Hong Kong Film Producers Association announced that action film actor and director, Yuan Kui, a long-time collaborator of Jackie Chan and Jet Li, died in 2022 due to infection with the new coronavirus.

According to Isna, the Hong Kong Filmmakers Association confirmed to Variety that actor and director Yuan Kui, of the action films “Too Close” and “Die or Die”, died in 2022. The cause of his death was kept secret at the request of his family.

But the news of the photographer’s death came from the famous action movie star Jackie Chan who mourned Yuan Kui online.

Corey Yuen died of Covid-19 in Hong Kong on an unknown date, local and English reports said. Born on February 15, 1951, his original name was Yang Gangming.

Yuen Kwai and Jackie Chan were classmates and both trained at the Peking Opera School. They became famous during the heyday of Hong Kong films from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

Yuan initially focused on his acting career, appearing in films such as Warriors of Magic Mountain and Eastern Condors, appearing in front of the camera alongside stars such as Jackie Chan, Hong, Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Rothrock and old colleague Jet Li.

He then turned to acting and directing, directing Ninja in the Dragon’s Lair, All for the Winners, and its sequel The Wager.

Yuan Kui directed the films “Legend and Legend 2” and “New Shaolin Legend” starring Jet Li, and his close relationship with Jet Li led Yuan Kui to enter the Hollywood film industry.

Yuen worked on six of Jet Li’s American films, including Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon and The Villain, and served as the fight choreographer for 2000’s X-Men before directing Too Close and The Transporter, both released in 2002.

In 2006, Quinn Yuan directed Dead or Alive, an adaptation of the video game starring Holly Valance, Jaime Pressly, Devon Aoki and Sarah Carter.
