Three new volunteers from Japan arrived in Tonga on August 8 to begin working on education and sports activities projects in Tonga. The Tonga Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announced that volunteers Ms. Shiori Odate, Ms. Miho Ueno and Ms. Ikuyo Takahashi will work in Tonga for approximately two years under the Japan Volunteer Program (JOVC).
Ms. Shiori Odate will focus on elementary education at the ‘Eua Elementary School Department, serving as a volunteer at ‘Eua for the first time since 2020. Ms. Miho Ueno will share her expertise in music at Tailulu University, while Ms. Ikuyo Takahashi will contribute to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ sports activity projects.
The volunteers will receive a month-long local orientation and language training before being assigned to their respective host organizations. Their skills and dedication are expected to have a positive impact on the communities they serve.
“We look forward to their successful mission in Tonga,” said a spokesman for the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
