Retired General Faiz Hamid, former head of Pakistan Army intelligence, has been arrested.
Pakistan’s military has arrested the former chief of the country’s army intelligence agency (ISI) and filed a case in a military court under military law.
The Pakistan Army Public Relations Department said in a statement today that he was arrested by the Supreme Court in connection with the Top City housing project scandal and the military trial proceedings against him have begun.
Faiz Hamid served as the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI from June 2019 to November 2021.
Some political parties, including the Awami National Party, Muslim League and PPP, have also accused him of supporting the Afghan Taliban and other militants.
It is claimed that Faiz Hamid negotiated with the Pakistani Taliban during his tenure, leading the Imran Khan-led government to release many of the group’s militants and resettle others in the tribal areas.
Faiz Hamid also visited Kabul in the early days of the Taliban’s return to power.
