How to apply for a passport for a newborn in India

New Delhi: A passport is not only the most necessary document for international travel, but it is also an important proof of identity and address verification. The Indian government allows every citizen to apply for a passport. Even infants or newborns can apply for a passport and they must have one if they want to travel internationally.

The procedure for applying for a passport for an infant or a newborn is slightly different from that for an adult. In India, parents or guardians play a very important role in the documentation of a newborn baby applying for a passport.

A parent or guardian can apply for a passport for a newborn child in India. A declaration with the details of the minor as given in Annexure D must be included in the application.

Register on the Passport Services Online Portal

– Log in to the Passport Services Online Portal using your registered login ID

– Click on the link “Apply for a new passport/Reissue passport”

– Fill in the required details in the form and submit

– Click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ link on the ‘View Saved/Submitted Requests’ screen

– This will allow you to schedule an appointment
