The United Front for the Reunification of Korea announced in a press release on the 8th that around 9 to 10 pm the previous night, Representative Jang Se-yeol and 13 members flew 10 large balloons and 200,000 anti-North Korean leaflets containing content criticizing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the United Nations in the direction of North Korea.
He added that the balloon also carried 100 microwave radios and 6,000 USB devices. The USBs contained President Yun Seok-yeol’s speech commemorating the March 1 Independence Day and messages from U.S. senators and representatives to North Korea.
After North Korea recently launched an abandoned balloon into South Korean territory, defector groups responded by distributing leaflets. On the 6th, the Self-Reliant North Korea Movement Alliance distributed 200,000 anti-North Korean leaflets in Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province. The day before, another defector group, Keunsaem, released 500 plastic bottles filled with rice, a banknote, and a USB flash drive containing Korean dramas on Ganghwa Island with the northward tide.
