Iran submits report to UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The Iranian delegation, led by Ambassador Ali Barin, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva, attended the 113th session of the United Nations at the European Headquarters and presented Iran’s fourth periodic report on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

The delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Human Rights Headquarters, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Office of the President, the Ministry of Education and Parliament, attended the meeting on August 7-8.

At the meeting, Abdullah Moradi, Director of the Political Affairs Office of the Ministry of Interior, mentioned the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policies regarding nationalities, religions, religious minorities and foreigners, and presented a report on measures taken by the ministry to promote human rights in Iran.

The 1969 International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination is a United Nations treaty that urges member states to eliminate racism and promote understanding among all races. All member states are required to submit reports on their actions in accordance with the objectives and obligations of the convention.
