‘Wild Women’ a big hit at Jibara International Film Festival

Cuban Fiction Feature Films Wild Womanthe first work Alan Gonzalezreceived on Saturday, August 10 Lucia Award for Best Film in the 18th Century Category Yoshiwara International Film Festivalending in that coastal town in the province of Holguín.

The event is one of the few of its kind still held in Cuba. A total of 83 entriesone of its side events will be the presentation of the 2024 Lucía de Honor Award to director Manuel Pérez Paredes and director of photography Livio Delgado.

Created in 2003 by the late Cuban director Humberto Solas, The festival ended with the presentation of awards in all categories.

It was selected as the Best Fiction Short Film. Invalidation (Brazil, 2023), by Caroline Cavalcanti, while the Special Prize went to the feature film The ocean is the real continent (Cuba-Italy, 2023), de Tommaso Santambrogio.

Also, special mention is made of If ever (Cuba, 2023), by Annia Quesada Milord; No documents (Canada, 2023), by Christian de la Cortina; and eager (Cuba-Portugal, 2023), by Sandra Ramy, Sandra Lopes, Inti Herrera and X Alfonso.

The Best Documentary Award went to A home without a wardrobe (Spain-Argentina, 2023), by Eduardo Cubillo, the Animation Award went to Poppies outside my window (Columbia, 2023) by Grettel Melissa Quintana.

In the “Cinema in Progress” section, a documentary directed by Cristiano Regina and co-produced by Italy, Spain and Cuba was recognized. Havana Boxing Social Club.

The production will be supported with English translation, subtitling, delivery, international festival promotion and distribution efforts.

Sergio Benvenuto, nephew of festival president Humberto Solás, announced at the closing ceremony: Starting from 2025, the festival will be held again in April under the name of Jibara International Poverty Film Festival.founded by Director Lucia (1968).
