Bangladesh fought back to restrict Sri Lanka to 124 for 9 in their T20 World Cup Group D match at Savannah on Friday, with Rishad Hussain contributing with his brilliant leg-spin.

Sri Lanka got off to a good start, leading 53-2 after six overs, and after 14 overs, they advanced to 100-3, with Pathum Nissanka scoring 47 off 28 balls, including eight boundaries (one six).

But then the 21-year-old Rishad struck twice in quick succession, completely changing the situation.

A sweep from Charith Asalanka found Shakib Al Hasan at deep back and he managed to catch the ball.

Bangladesh captain Wanindu Hasaranga then fell victim to Rishad’s spin and sent a sharp turning ball to the slipping Soumya Sarkar.

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 21 runs off 26 balls but was then beaten by a flighted ball from Rishad and then by an alert Litton Das.

Sri Lanka managed to score just 24 runs in the last six overs but lost six wickets during that period.

Rishad achieved career-best T20I figures of 3-22 in four overs.

Mustafizur Rahman finished with 3-17 in four innings while Taskin Ahmed also had a good performance, picking up figures of 2-25.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hussain Shatto won the toss and chose to bowl.

Sri Lanka, looking to bounce back from their opening match loss to South Africa, decided to make one change to the batting line-up with Dhananjaya de Silva replacing Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Bangladesh had a poor performance in the warm-up games, first losing to the United States in three matches and then to India by 60 runs, and now this is their first match of the tournament.
