For the outgoing German IOK President Thomas Bach, the closing ceremony was unique. He gave his closing remarks for the last time. “Paris 2024 is the Olympics of a new era,” said the 70-year-old, thanking the hosts. «Dear French friends, you have fallen in love with the Olympic Games. We have fallen in love with all of you. »
The celebrations followed the theme of the opening ceremony and began at the Louvre’s Tuileries Palace, where swimming superstar Leon Marchand boarded the Olympic flame. The four-time Paris Olympic champion carried the flame in a lantern to the world-famous museum, and later in the evening it arrived at the Stade de France and was extinguished by athletes from all continents.

“These Olympics have exceeded everyone’s expectations,” Bach said before the ceremony. “It’s been a great experience, full of French culture and lifestyle. This spark has clearly spread among the people.” Following the Tokyo Summer Olympics and the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Paris Olympics are no longer affected by the new crown epidemic.
For Bach, the Games are more inclusive and can be moved to where people are. “They are younger Games and, above all, more sustainable Games,” said the 1976 Olympic champion. CO should increase by more than 50% compared to previous Games.2-The balance sheet is declining and 95% of the venues for the competitions already exist or are being built temporarily.

More than 71,000 spectators from 205 delegations and 9,000 athletes and supervisors watched the evening at the Stade de France, where the Swiss flag was carried by two medalists, Julie Delon (triathlon) and Roman Mityukov (swimming). After the hits “Champs-Elysées” and “We Are the Champions”, the artistic part of the evening began. As with the spectacular opening ceremony on the Seine, artistic director Thomas Jolly was responsible for the final chord. With more than 250 artists, acrobats and dancers, the Stade de France later became a theater. Rehearsals for the show lasted a full 35 days.

The floating piano and pianist Alain Roche thrilled the audience.

As part of the celebrations, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo handed the Olympic flag to her colleague Karen Bass of Los Angeles. “We are sharing a historic moment and sending a message to girls around the world that they can do anything,” Bass said earlier of the first female-to-female flag handover.
More than 30,000 security forces are on the move
More than 9.5 million tickets were sold, more than 60% of which went to French fans. Nearly a million people lined the route for the road cycling event, and 450,000 spectators visited the beach volleyball court on top of the Eiffel Tower.
Special attention was also paid to security during the final weekend of the Olympics. 30,000 emergency service personnel were deployed in the greater Paris area. 2,000 people attended the closing ceremony. (dpa)

The last “hymn”! Yseult sang Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” again – chicken skin!
By the way: the song that Sinatra made famous, “My Way,” was originally in French and the original version was called “Come d’habitude.”
What a wonderful ending!

The action hero gets on a motorcycle and carries the flag with him. He is supposed to accomplish the impossible and bring the ring to California.
In the video, he immediately entered a large transport plane and jumped out of the plane with a parachute! The sound of the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Now, IOK President Thomas Bach addresses the world: “The Olympics cannot bring peace, but they can create a culture of peace. Let us practice this culture every day!”

There have never been so many marriage proposals from athletes at the Olympics! And in the City of Love – what a romance! If it really comes down to it.

IOK President Thomas Bach and Tony Estanguet appear. The latter is a three-time European champion, three-time world champion and three-time Olympic champion. He was the flag bearer for France at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the first French athlete to win three gold medals in three different Olympics (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and London 2012).
He is president of the Paris Olympics and a man of many words. In presidential style, Estanguet offers goosebumps. He says: “I have never been so proud to be French!” But at the same time: “We could not be prepared for something like this!” And: “We wanted to dream, so we got Leon Marchand!” Thunderous applause ensues!
«Thank you to everyone who has been there for us. Thank you to everyone who has given us a ride – all the drivers. Thank you to everyone who has protected us, the fire department, the police, the army. ”
