The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dr. Viliami Manu, has announced that this year’s Royal Agriculture, Fisheries, Tourism and Trade Show (RAFTT) will be held exclusively on Tongatapu Island, as opposed to being held on the outer islands in previous years. This year’s event, scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 24 at the Atele venue, is of particular significance as it is intended to welcome Pacific Islands Forum leaders to Tonga for The 53rd Forum leaders meeting.
Dr. Manu outlined the three main award categories at the RAFTT show. The first category will recognize farmers who grow the most variety and quantity of crops or livestock. The second category will recognize those who demonstrate eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices, including crop rotation, minimal use of machinery, and a diverse range of plants and animals focused on food security. This category recognizes farmers who balance family needs with commercial purposes.
The third award will be presented to farmers who have demonstrated significant progress, particularly those who have recently entered the field and have successfully scaled up their operations over time.

The presence of King Tupou VI at this year’s show adds significance to the event, and Dr Manu said he was keen to showcase local talent and sustainable practices, which aligned with Tonga’s wider agricultural and fisheries goals.
The RAFTT Show is a national event showcasing Tonga grown agricultural products and locally produced products. All island groups (Tontapu, Ewa, Haapai, Vava’u, Niua) participate in the local agricultural show held each August.
