Ukraine will not be able to return most of the children abducted by Russia.
We lose them because children of one or two years old don’t remember anything. Talking about this in an interview with Kraina magazine Tell Director of the Human Rights Media Initiative Olga Ryshtilova.
“At the time of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine did not have a unified list of children in boarding schools, which created a big problem, and unfortunately, we will not return most of the children because we lost them. One-year-olds, two-year-olds, they will not remember anything, and moving them from one city to another is an unforgivable crime,” Reshetilova explained.

She also noted that children are currently at risk under occupation.
“For example, the Berdyansk teenagers Nikita Khanganov and Tigran Hovhannisyan, who died last June, were killed under mysterious circumstances and their bodies have not yet been returned to their relatives. Russia is hiding what happened to the two boys. Teenagers are also persecuted in Melitopol because they grew up in Ukraine and most of them have a Ukrainian identity, which is a specific category because they are still children but they often behave like adults and we cannot protect them,” the expert added.
