In Kutiala, wintering starts in May. As usual, farmers start applying organic fertilizers while others clean the fields. Some are already waiting for the second rain to start ploughing while others are sowing directly through the traditional broadcast method.
“It’s been a difficult start to winter in Kutiala. The rains haven’t been heavy enough. We are very scared about the seedlings,” said one farmer. Another added: “Every winter has its realities.”
In short, as noted, the start of the campaign was difficult, due to the uneven distribution of rainfall. But the rain is looking good at the moment. The weather forecast shows seasonal averages above my average.
