In the Leningrad region, a calf was helped out of a river, the Leningrad region emergency services reported.

The incident took place near the tourist base “Poplavok”. A pack of local dogs drove the animal into the Volkhov River, from where he could not get out on his own.

Rescuers who arrived at the scene quickly rescued the elk calf. The animal has since been transported to a forest area.

According to 78.ru, an employee of the visitor center noticed the animal while it was already in the river. The dogs chasing him had already started jumping into the water, and then the man started throwing objects into the pond to scare them away. Later, he tried to drive the elk calf to shore, but he was too tired and scared.

According to the witness, he noticed bite marks on the tail and body.

Earlier, in St. Petersburg, a driver noticed a moose and decided to help him cross the road because he was lost and possibly injured on a busy highway. As a result, he picked up the animal and left it behind a fence so that the rescued animal could not return to the road.
