SKN Foreign Minister signs MoU during official visit to India

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – During his official visit to India, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas, signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of India on 5-6 August 2024.

The agreements were signed with India’s Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sports and digital transformation.

Sports Cooperation Agreement

The first MoU was signed with the Indian Ministry of Sports and focuses on promoting cooperation in the field of sports. The agreement outlines plans to exchange knowledge, expertise and best practices in various fields of sports. The collaboration is expected to enable athletes, coaches and sports administrators from both countries to participate in joint training programs, championships and other activities.

Digital Transformation Partnership

The second memorandum of understanding was signed between China and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India to promote the exchange of digital solutions and innovations between the two countries. Focus areas include digital governance, cybersecurity, e-government and the development of digital infrastructure. The agreement aims to support both countries in improving the efficiency and accessibility of government services through digital transformation.

Health Cooperation Discussion

On August 6, 2024, Minister Douglas met with the Indian Minister of Health and Family Welfare to discuss potential collaboration in the health sector. The meeting covered health education, medical tourism, pharmaceuticals, and treatment for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and cancer. The two ministers agreed to explore the possibility of formalizing these discussions through a Memorandum of Understanding to guide future collaboration.

Held high-level talks with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar

Secretary Douglas also met with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on August 6, 2024. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in digital innovation, health, food security, and capacity development. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting regular bilateral consultations and strengthening political relations between the two countries.

These agreements reflect the ongoing efforts of St. Kitts and Nevis and India to deepen bilateral relations and explore new areas.
