Chinese people donate $5,000 for murdered police officer
This past Monday, Chinese living in Samoa donated $5,000 to the Police and Prisons Office from Mr. Det. Sgt. Benjamin Perite was killed two weeks ago by Pokati Tu’u, who is accused of murder.
The next morning, the police department posted an announcement on its website in which the minister expressed gratitude to the Chinese city government for its generous donation, plunging the police department into darkness over the death of one of its leaders.
In addition, some of the sons of Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent Daniel Evans also expressed their condolences.
The late government representative is the second person to die as a result of the accused. The village of Fasito’o-Uta has already evicted Mr. Pokati Tu’u from their land. The community has also held a memorial service for the family of the deceased in Nofoali, but until today, no specific date has been set for the family of the government security representative.
Frankie’s Chicken Coop in Tanuma Lala
Mr Tanuvasa Petone Mauga, Commissioner of Fire Services Agency (SFESA), confirmed that it has been a week since the chicken coop of Frankie Company in Tanumalala village was destroyed by fire.
Mauga said the fire started in the building where chicken feed was stored and then moved to the area where boxes were stored. But thanks to the quick response of the Ana fire department, they were able to put out the fire before it spread to other houses.
The incident occurred at 4 p.m. and the fire department was able to save many nearby homes.
However, Mauga revealed that they are investigating the exact cause of the fire as it was not caused by electrical wires. But the fire started from the house where the chickens were eating food.
Tanuvasa stressed the need to remain vigilant as there have been several incidents of house fires this year.
First Pacific person to win an Olympic track and field title
Alex Ross, a man from Samoa, earned his chance to compete in the Olympic men’s discus title with a throw of 62.88 meters.
The 32-year-old won a Pacific medal in the discus throw at the Olympics in April 2023 in Oklahoma, USA.
The championship match of this competition will be held at 7:30 this morning.
Mr Ross was born in the United States and played football and basketball in school. He started throwing the discus while at Ogemaw Heights High School in Michigan.
In 2012, he received Samoan citizenship through his ancestors, who traveled to the United States with members of their church.
In 2011, Ross received an invitation from the Samoan track and field team to represent Samoa in international competitions.
Five bodies to be investigated
Forensic pathologists who arrived in Fiji yesterday began investigating the five bodies currently lying in a Samoan peacehouse.
The bodies included that of a man who fell on Sunday morning and a 12-year-old boy who was shot as he slept in Salaravalu, Savaii, on Saturday. As well as the body of the government’s representative to the Special Police, Sgt. Benjamin Perritt, who died while performing reserve duties.
The remaining bodies will be examined by medical experts, including that of a man from Utuliyi who was linked to the officer’s death.
Police Commissioner Mr Auapaau Logitino Filipo disclosed that Fijian experts will examine five bodies including that of a 45-year-old man from Malie village who fell to his death on Sunday while carrying some coconuts from a coconut tree for drinking water for his family.
