St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — The Landsome Bowl Cultural Center will host the 27th Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Tournament on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 8:00 p.m.
The competition continues the tradition of celebrating calypso music and its diverse performers from across the Leeward Islands.
The competition will include performances by artists from each of the Leeward Islands, vying for the title of 2024 Leeward Calypso Monarch:
Antigua and Barbuda: Lestan Jacobs (Young Vandals)
Montserrat: Garnett Thompson (Sylk)
St. Martin: Esidore York (Mighty Dow)
Anguilla: Anthony Bryan (Dr. Splinter)
St. Kitts: Karicia Willet (Queen’s Independence Party)
Nevis: Oscar Brown (Astro)
LICC Monarch: Keithroy Morson (De Bear)
The participating bands include musicians from different regions:
Keyboard: Cliffette Isaac (St. Kitts)
Bassist: Roelof Matthew (St. Maarten)
Guitar: Kelvin Richardson (Anguilla)
Drummer: Fredrick York (St. Martin’s)
First Trumpeter: Marlon Richardson (Anguilla)
Second Trumpeter: Clayton Emanuel (St. Thomas)
Trombone: Kasem Thompson (Anguilla)
Tenor saxophone: Wilbert Brooks (St. Thomas/Anguilla)
Alto saxophone: Trevor Queeley (St. Kitts/Anguilla), Khori Barrett (Anguilla)
Background singers: Singing Angie, Shemona Bryan, Kyra Baird (Anguilla)
The competition will be judged by a panel of judges including Dr. Trevor Hodge (Anguilla), Brian London (Trinidad), Kimba Southwell (Anguilla), Keithly Lake (Anguilla) and Summerville Kern (Trinidad).
Guest performers included the Messenger and King Conris (Cabinet Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis).
The Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition showcases calypso talent and celebrates the cultural significance of the music genre in the region.
