The United States announced today a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $125 million (€115 million), which includes ammunition for rocket systems and artillery or anti-tank weapons.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed in a statement that this is the tenth aid package authorized by President Joe Biden to Kyiv to help Ukraine “protect its troops, its people, and its cities from Russia.”
For Blinken, this is “a critical package of new weapons and equipment that is urgently needed to bolster its military’s defense against ongoing attacks from Russia.”
The supplies, to be delivered as quickly as possible, include “air defense interceptors, ammunition for rocket and artillery systems, ‘multi-mission’ radars and anti-tank weapons.”
“As the President (…) has made clear, the United States and the international coalition we have assembled will continue to support Ukraine,” reads the note signed by the US Secretary of State.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military offensive on Ukrainian territory, plunging Europe into its worst security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
Information released by both sides about the course of the fighting could not immediately be independently confirmed.
Ukraine has been dependent on financial and weapons assistance from its Western allies since Russia invaded the country.
Kiev’s allies have also imposed sanctions on key sectors of the Russian economy in an attempt to undermine Moscow’s ability to finance its war in Ukraine.
As the war enters its third year, Ukraine’s armed forces have been facing shortages of soldiers and weapons and ammunition despite repeated promises of help from Western allies, which have begun to fail.
