Fashion chain Esprit has reportedly not made any new deliveries in Luxembourg since spring 2024 due to store closures in neighboring Germany.

The Düsseldorf-based chain is closing all of its stores in Germany, putting 1,300 jobs at risk. On Friday, British investment group Alteri announced it had bought the European licensing rights for the brand.

Seven German Esprit companies, all of which have filed for bankruptcy, have expressed support for Alteri’s offer. Details of the purchase price have not yet been released.

Esprit will continue to operate outside of Europe and is currently represented in about 40 countries around the world. In 2020, the brand closed 50 stores due to the epidemic, resulting in 1,100 employees losing their jobs.

Esprit stores in Luxembourg are also affected

Four of the seven Esprit stores in Luxembourg have closed in recent weeks as Esprit Europe GmbH declared bankruptcy.

The affected shops include those in Luxembourg city centre and the city’s railway station, a shopping centre on the Route d’Arlon and a shopping centre in Weiswampach.

The stores in Mersch, Belval and Pommerloch will be operated as franchises and will continue to work with other brands. As a result, the affected employees in these stores will be able to remain employed.

Esprit stores in Luxembourg have not received any new deliveries since spring, a staff member told RTL.
