This year’s sports-themed summer, marked by the European football championship and the Olympic Games, has also encouraged the purchase of new TV sets. Some Slovenian retailers have even tripled their sales and are offering special offers to consumers.

Bought a bigger teveja

“We experienced a real TV sales boom at Harvey Norman during this year’s European Football Championship and Olympic Games,” the electronics retailer wrote, with sales of TVs with a diagonal of 216cm and above (85 inches and above) more than tripling in June and July this year compared to the same period last year.

Big Bang also observed that the European Football Championship, where the Slovenian national team achieved a historic victory, and this year’s Olympic Games had an extremely positive impact on the sales of TVs, projectors and home theaters. “Big Bang’s projector sales in June and July were twice as high as in the same period last year, and the growth rate for home theater systems was slightly higher. We also achieved an extremely high double-digit growth in TV sales from The Big Bang Theory,” they announced. According to their observation, the importance of major sporting events is also recognized by many catering establishments in Slovenia, who want to allow their guests to watch the events at a high level, which is why most of them also decide to purchase sound systems.

Even before the match against Kazakhstan in the fall, when the Slovenian football team qualified for the European Championship, the sales of TVs featuring The Big Bang Theory saw their first jump. “Based on our observations, major sporting events are one of the most important reasons why households decide to replace or upgrade their TVs, and football certainly stands out among major sporting events,” added the country’s largest electronics retailer.
